Is Badassitron a joke or a meta-critique?
Series: Studio Series
Year: 2025
Allegiance: Autobots
Class: Deluxe

Prelude: So, I bought another Bumblebee. Though technically it’s not Bumblebee, it’s B-127. He is never called Bumblebee in the Transformers One movie. So… mostly a Bumblebee, but not really. I refuse to call him Badassitron. So here we have B-127 from Transformers One, the Studio Series Deluxe figure. Is it good enough to justify buying yet another Bumblebee, named or not? Let’s say go!

Robot Mode: Bumblebee started out as a little, pudgy guy, then become a lean, mean fighting machine with door wings for the movie era, and now he’s back to being a little, pudgy guy who is still a mean fighting machine. B-127 has got a nice, chunky silhouette with very big feet that could easily be the front portion of a VW Bug. He is colored more golden than yellow, really, with black and grey highlights. Very nice, actually, as he is far more detailed than he looks at first glance.

B-127 is nicely articulated, as you’d expect from a modern day Transformers figure. No twisting wrists, but otherwise he is not limited. Some weird proportions, yes, as his upper legs are just about half the length of his lower ones, but overall he is very nice.

In the movie gaining a transformation cog gave B-127 plenty of features and most of them are represented here. He has two gun attachments that go over his fists to make it seem as if his arms have transformed into guns. Then there are two blue blades you can insert into the sides of those gun attachments, giving him his knife hands from the movie. He also carries one of the big rifles that numerous characters used in the movie. The gun attachments and knives can be stored on the back. Sadly there is nowhere to store the black rifle other than Bee’s forearm.

Bottom line: a very nice Bumblebee figure. I’d have liked it had they included the battle mask he wore in the movie, maybe instead of the rifle, but overall I’m pretty happy with this guy. Not a revolutionary new look for Bumblebee, but a good representation of the movie character.

Alternate Mode: B-127 transforms into a low-riding, surprisingly mean-looking vehicle. It does somewhat resemble the vehicle mode of previous Cybertron-Mode Bumblebees (such as the War for Cybertron Bee), but might be the sleekest version yet. The front looks like a very aggressive face with an underbite, which I love for some weird reason. The transformation is pretty easy, though pushing the breast plate over the head has very little tolerance.

It has become canon for Bumblebee’s head to be visible on the underside of the vehicle, so it’s not surprising that we see that here, too. The sides of the car are a bit open, but it’s an alien vehicle, so that’s okay. All of Bee’s weapons can be attached in this mode. The rifle goes on the side, while the gun attachments and blades go on top. This makes the car look even more dangerous than it already does. Very nice.

Not much more I can write here. A very nice vehicle mode with really just one minor flaw, namely that you can kind of see Bee’s feet sticking out the back. Of course those aren’t really his feet, but rather his calves, but they look like feet.

Remarks: Bumblebee, or B-127 rather, is a rather tragic figure in the Transformers One movie. Having been stuck on the lowest level for ages, all alone, he has developed a habit of constantly talking in order to fill the silence around him. He talks even when unconscious, something that really gets on Shockwave’s nerves. But in the end he is a faithful companion and good friend to Orion Pax, the future Optimus Prime, and he helps free the people of Iacon from the tyranny of Sentinel Prime.

B-127 is part of the Studio Series A-assortment, meaning he is one of the few Studio Series figures you can expect to actually see in brick-and-mortar stores here in Germany. On a recent visit to my hometown of Berlin I saw him on the shelves of my boyhood toy store (still going strong in its fifth decade) and decided to buy him, even though he was a bit more expensive there than he’d have been online. I want that store to survive.

I have to admit, though, it’s a pretty good figure. Sure, it’s yet another Bumblebee figure, there are tons of those, but it’s a good Bumblebee figure. Two good modes, nice weapons, strong resemblance to the movie character, just about the only negative thing is the missing battle mask. So bottom line: if you liked Transformers One and/or Bumblebee, this is a nice figure to get. Not a must, but good.
