Year: 2021
Back in the good old days, the first "upgrade" that both He-Man and Skeletor received (aka the first new toy for both characters after the originals) were the Battle Armor figures. Figures with torso armor that, when hit, showed off battle damage. It was a simple, yet very effective gimmick and the little tyke I once was enjoyed these figures more than the originals, actually.
Now the Battle Armor gimmick is finally back (after being mere exchangeable breast plates in the Classics line) in the Origins line. Battle Armor Skeletor is similar to the old figure in size, but features both knee and elbow joints, as well as exchangeable hands with wrist joints and a second (adorably scowling) head. The rotating breast plate in the torso is a bit smaller than it was on the original figure, but the mechanism is the same. Hit it once, you get a single scar. Hit it twice, a second one appears. Roll it back and the armor is healed as if by magic. Again, a simple, but very cool gimmick.
Apart from the gimmick, Skeletor comes with his trusty ram staff, half of the Sword of Power, and a shield. He can store shield and sword on his back if you want to. So bottom line: if you are, like me, a fan of the Battle Armor gimmick from way back when, this new figure will make you feel like a five year old again. Very nice.
