Series: Masters of the Universe Classics
Real Name: Teela
Title: Warrior Goddess
Year: 2009
The adoptive daughter of Duncan, the current Man-At-Arms, Teela grew upon the palace of King Randor. Trained from an early age in the ways of battle, at 18 she became Captain of the Guard, leading Randor’s troops and acting as a de facto member of the Masters of the Universe. She has yet to become aware of her true heritage as the magically cloned daughter, and heir to, the Sorceress of Castle Grayskull. She carries the staff of Ka which was once used by the Snake Men in their epic battles against the Horde and King Grayskull during the Great Wars. Teela uses her magical staff to track her foes every move.
Review: In the original vintage toyline, Teela had to pull double duty as both the Captain of the Royal Guard and the Warrior Goddess, the predecessor of the Sorceress. Basically this was accomplished by her snake harness. If she wore it, she was the Goddess. Without it, she was just Teela. Simple, but it worked. It was only much later that the story was streamlined and the Sorceress was established as an entirely separate character with her own unique look. The snake look for Teela has made several returns in the comics, usually when Teela became the new Sorceress.
The Classics figures sticks close to the vintage figure, giving Teela both the snake harness (with a separate head) and staff she used as the Goddess, but also a sword and shield that she used as the Captain of the Royal Guard. She also comes with Zoar the Falcon as an accessory, the animal form of the Sorceress. The figure is actually taller than Classics He-Man, which is a bit weird, but overall she looks great and is also nicely articulated. So if you liked vintage Teela, then the Classics version is a shoe-in.
